Hometown Christmas Weekend!

This past weekend was Hometown Christmas here in Ontonagon. A group of volunteers got together about 8 years ago and put together some fun activities to do the first weekend in December. This is the first Hometown Christmas that I have participated in. It started on Friday. I brought Landen downtown Friday night and we saw Santa Claus (which he didn't really care for) and some reindeer. I also took him on a mule drawn wagon ride and a hay ride. Steve couldn't join us because he had basketball practice. I don't have any pictures of Landen downtown since I was by myself with him, but I did take some pictures of him in his snowmobile suit and the boots that Auntie Patti bought him!
On Saturday I gave Landen a bowl of cheerios for breakfast and let him feed himself. Although he didn't do it well it was a start.

After his nap I brought him downtown to the Community Action Agency and got him registered in the MiChild Identification Program. They swabbed his mouth and he was supposed to bite down on this "thing" they had, but he wouldn't so we have to try that ourselves sometime. He also got fingerprinted, his picture taken, and a little video all burned on a cd for us. We also stopped by the high school for the "Christmas Walk" but didn't stay long since Landed wasn't in a good mood.
As soon as Steve walked in the door from work Saturday night we headed out the door to go watch the fireworks. We drove down to the marina and after waiting for about 20 minutes they finally started. I took Landen out of his car seat and he sat on my lap and just stared at them. They were really pretty!

On Sunday we went to the Candlelight for "Breakfast with the Grinch". Landen didn't really mind the Grinch, but didn't really want to take the candy cane from him either. Before breakfast Landen decorated a cookie with his buddy, Hayden. I think he sometimes gets confused with the name "Hayden", because his friend Hayden sure doesn't look like his cousin Hayden!

After we were done decorating his cookie we ordered breafast. Steve and Landen got their breakfast but mine never came. Steve was eating as slow as he could waiting for my omelet to come, but it never did. Landen was getting fussy so I told Steve to hurry it up so we could go. When I went to pay I told our waitress that I never got my omelet so please don't charge me for that. She took 10% off Steve's & Landen's order which was nice. Anyway when we got home there was a knock on the door and there was the Grinch with my omelet. She apologized and apologized and I told her it was no big deal. So, I was able to eat my breakfast in peace because Landen fell asleep on the way home.
The weekend's activities concluded with a parade downtown and a vist with Santa Claus at the firehall. Landen enjoyed the parade and waved at each float as it went by. We were first in line to see Santa and it was 2 quick pictures and we were out the door! You can see why they were quick pictures!
We had a great weekend - Thank you Hometown Christmas Volunteers!

Ha! Those santa pictures will probably look a lot like Mady's next year. I think she was too little this year to really see who was holding her. (The lights on the tree were far more interesting.) And that story about the Grinch bringing your breakfast was great :)
